Globacom Limited has made significant investments in high-capacity communications and fiber-optic infrastructure to advance digital penetration across the country.
The company’s Executive Vice Chairman, Bella Disu, highlighted Globacom’s pivotal role during the France-Nigeria Business Council’s Meeting held in Paris during the state visit of President Bola Tinubu. The France-Nigeria Business Forum was part of the three-day state visit to France by President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, bringing together prominent business leaders from both nations. The forum fostered business partnerships and facilitated cultural exchanges to strengthen bilateral relations.
This significant meeting illuminated the telecommunications sector’s indispensable role in enriching Nigeria’s economic landscape. Dr. Tijani commended Globacom for its pivotal contributions and outlined the government’s robust plans to enhance service quality and broaden broadband infrastructure, initiatives poised to unlock a wealth of opportunities for Nigerian citizens.
At the meeting, she emphasized the importance of digitisation as a driving force for economic growth and reiterated the telecommunications sector’s critical role in the digital transformation agenda of the Tinubu administration, spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE) through its Strategic Plan 2023–2027.
“Digitization is the key enabler of economic growth, and at Globacom, we see ourselves as a gateway for digital solutions. We are not just building infrastructure but creating an ecosystem where technology transforms lives. Companies like Eutelsat, with their satellite communications capabilities, enhance rural connectivity and enable smart cities,” Disu told an audience of leading French and Nigerian business executives including Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Gilbert Chagoury, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede amongst others.
Globacom has consistently broken new ground, becoming the first telecommunications company in 2011 to build the $800 million high-capacity fiber-optic cable known as Glo 1. Operating without interruption since 2016, this facility ensures reliable connectivity for both businesses and individuals, cementing Globacom’s reputation as a key driver of Nigeria’s digital economy.
